The year 1930 found Iosif Iser on a long European pilgrimage alongside his wife, Desirée Sterian Iser. The two traveled to Munich, Paris and Spain – the latter being one of the artist's favorite places and intensely transposed into his creation. In 1931, while in Paris, Iosif Iser participated in the main artistic events of the time; he even organized a personal exhibition at the Drouet Gallery in the French capital. Made during the same period, the present work introduces us to the intimate universe of the painter, a universe in which we probably find a cordial relationship between two generations. The same characters become the subject of the eponymous work in the repertoire of the Museum of Art Collections in Bucharest. Represented seated, in a grip that betrays the close relationship, Iser's protagonists appear, this time too, in a pair (just as the odalisques and Tatar women from the Dobrogea and Balchik area appeared). We note the generational differences, revealed by the frivolous clothing of the young girl and the long clothes, gloves and cane of the old woman. In the other work, the artist's muses pose standing, allowing this time to glimpse even more the characteristics that individualize them. This second work reminds us, somehow, of Ernesto de Fiori's famous "Duas amigas". "His female models – peasant women, odalisques, dancers, Spanish women – sometimes express a sort of sad, melancholic charm, which we receive not so much through the expression of the figure, as through the color that creates this atmosphere." Paraschiva Glauber Pojar would conclude.
