Any work by Ciucurencu starts with colour. The artist begins his work with a patch of colour, concentrating his composition around it. Ciucurencu does not hesitate to experiment with different chromatic combinations and attempts to render the chiaroscuro technique. In the initial stage of his creation he mainly paints still life or landscapes. In the second stage, the approached themes belong to the field of political or social issues. Although still life offers him an unlimited freedom to experiment, in his character works this freedom of creation would become, as we can notice, somehow limited. However, he would use chromatics to his advantage. Through shades and accents, the artist demystifies physiognomies and characters. In Ciucurescu's secondary creation stage, shapes and objects are paid an increased attention by the artist. His work directs itself towards a more refined colour scheme and a concise, almost geometrical, character sketching style. Therefore, Ciucurencu's protagonists are achieved in a constructivist manner, with precise details. The black line, which usually protected contrasts, disappears, being replaced by well-defined shapes. The realistic vision of art motivates him to create a work that sustains customs and traditions. Facing this social fight, the colour would not remain indifferent. According to context and through shades, Ciucurencu assigns a deep and complex significance to the rendered subjects. With great chromatic skill, he succeeds in offering a psychological and historical documentation of the outside world. In the current work, the artist puts balance at stake, both in the choice of theme, as well as in its rendering on canvas. The character placement is not random, but suggests, as we can notice, the idea of protection, which the painter consciously associates with the idea of family. The cohesion principle is also completed by the way Ciucurencu chooses to build its works dated after 1944. He no longer uses suggestion, and no longer leaves incomplete shapes. He is preoccupied with the entire development of the subject, both as far as shape is concerned, but also from the chromatic point of view. When rendering themes of social inspiration, the suggestion comes second, as the artist is now far more preoccupied with conveying his personal beliefs.
