39. Irina with Fan [a doua jumătate a anilor '30]

Gheorghe Vânătoru imposes himself through his plastic and chromatic strength, uses accents and contrasts, and also shapes the curves of his models' silhouettes by playing with lights and shadows. He is an advocate for an artistic path as close to the classics as possible, he does not use modern tricks or Avant-garde experiments. He would paint landscapes, still life, and he would also pay special attention to the portrait. He is concerned with the psychology of his protagonists, and that is why he would mainly paint real-life acquaintances. His feminine models appear in nude studies or in meditative portraits. The props that the artist assigns to his female protagonists belong to the intellectual sphere, and that is why his characters are captured either during the reading process, either sitting in armchairs, either laying on the couch.
