Roberto Carlos participated with the Brazilian national football team in three World Cup Championships, helping his team reach the final of the 1998 edition and win the one in 2002. He was also a teammate at Real Madrid with David Beckham and Luis Figo, being part of the Galacticos group. In April 2013, he was included by Marca in "The best eleven in the history of Real Madrid". He is also known as one of the best left-backs of all time, for the strength of his free-kick executions, which sometimes have a disturbing effect on the goalkeeper, as well as for his numerous incursions in support of the offense. In March 2007, Roberto Carlos became one of the five players who played more than 100 matches in the Champions League at the time.
