86. Swimming Pool [2002]

Laura Covaci creates an almost morbid vacancy around her characters, thus putting under the microscope only the relationship outlined between them to the detriment of contextual elements and the temporality of all those involved, whether they are protagonists or just mere viewers. She manages to transform austerity into a creative tool with which she constructs the necessary space for emotions and their interpretation. At the same time, the expressions of the characters lost in their own passions are outlined precisely by the severity of the compositional line, going as far as defining them through the contrast of shades. Also, the dynamics between the roundness of the figures and the linearity of the scenography in the secondary plan create a visual paradox, absolutely necessary to the ambiguous character of the work.
