90. Accident in Dangerous Space [2017]

Stefan Ungureanu's work always revolves around substantial themes, his final compositions in fact being images of a whole system of values and information that he constantly assimilates through universal knowledge and his own experiences. His interests in science, history, or technology are explored and brought together in an extremely laborious manner in the images he creates. His intellectual pursuits have always been supported by the exploration and in situ observation of natural environments less accessible to urban life, thus, like a scientist, extracting the necessary evidence for his own visual constructions. For example, in the work "Accident in a Perilious Space", the artist refers to the power relationship between man and nature, highlighting the perspective in which the darkness of nature can put the human being in extreme situations, even to the point of overwhelming it. His experiences in the field of speleology helped Stefan Ungureanu to store in his memory impressions that later became key images in his future visual narratives. Regardless of the concreteness of the themes of his works, the artist always seeks to reveal pivotal truths by connecting seemingly contradictory elements, but once overlapped we identify that they are, in fact, in a causal relationship, this relationship being the basis of evolution.
