In 1900, a year of a particular artistic importance, Francisc Șirato enrols in the Bucharest School of Fine Arts. Although some of his most praised colleagues were Constantin Brâncuși or Ion Theodorescu-Sion, Șirato was not being disregarded, even though his precarious financial situation deprived him of many necessary experiences for this stage of life. Because of this situation, during the first years of his career, the artist will change his professional orientation towards drawing, more specifically towards caricature, which was a source of income during his first years of practice. The collaboration with the "Furnica" newspaper will prove itself more than beneficial, helping him develop a critical eye. The campaigning nature of his works represented a frequently-encountered technique in the artistic world, and we can also find it in works by Tonitza or Iser. Although his debut in the Bucharest exhibitions environment takes place in 1908, as he takes part in the "Artistic Youth" exhibitions, Șirato will know true success more than 10 years later, the start of the Interbellum capturing a clear evolution of his art. His first individual exhibition takes place only in 1921, and until 1924 he participates in exhibitions of the "Romanian Art" association, but he will become a true revelation in the world of Romanian painting as soon as the association "Grupul celor Patru" ("The Group of the Four") is founded. Alongside Nicolae Tonitza, Ștefan Dimitrescu and Oscar Han, Șirato will exhibit until 1938, and that will represent a definitory stage for the artist's creation. He practised landscapes and character compositions, the main imaginary sources being discovered in the Dobrudjan picturesque, Constanța, Techirghiol, Mangalia and Balchik, which will offer Șirato endless sources of inspiration.
