Identification elements of iconographic and stylistic order: The icon represents a cut-out fragment from the interior painting of a wooden church (probably in ruins) and illustrates a scene from the Passion. The scene of the Entry into Jerusalem was cut out from the painted wooden wall of the church, to which a double profiled wooden frame, painted with red-brown, and doubled on the inside with the motive of the twisted rope, was applied to give the aspect of a wooden icon. The image represents the consecrated scene: in front of the gate of Jerusalem, suggested by buildings that resemble a western burg, surrounded by fortress walls, and on the right side of the composition, Jesus Christ, riding a donkey, followed by the Apostles, is greeted with honors by the people of Jerusalem; in his honor, a child cuts branches from a palm tree, and another lays a garment at the feet of his donkey. The typology of the faces of the characters in the scene of the Entry into Jerusalem presents wide faces, painted with pink ochre, lightly valued, with features rendered graphically, specific to the painting from Maramureș, but with more delicate lines. The characters' clothes, painted in red, blue and ochre, are applied in large spots, without any value, and the folds are graphically represented through a synthetic design, specific to the Maramureș painting.
Identification elements of technical order: Fragment cut out from a painted wall of a wooden church; new frame added.
Conclusions: The value of the painting is notable, even if it is mostly erased. The proven pictorial quality is the result of the hand of an "educated" painter, who had knowledge about Western painting, thus influencing the general image of the scene, which is tributary to this influence (A.D.).
