Between 1845 and 1852, Mihail Kogalniceanu published in Iași "Letopisețele Țării Modovei", in three volumes, accompanied by a preface (to vol. 1), studies and notes on valued the manuscripts. "Letopisețul Țării Moldovei" ("Writing from Country of Moldova"), or "Letopisețul țării Moldovei, de când s-au descălecat țara și de cursul anilor și de viiața domnilor carea scrie de la Dragoș vodă până à Aron vodă" ("The writing of the country of Moldavia, from when the country was cleared and the course of the years and the life of the lords who wrote from Dragoș vodă to Aron vodă") by Grigore Ureche remains one of the most important historical works of Moldavia, made by the chronicle between 1642-1647. The work of Grigore Ureche describes chronologically the history of Moldavia from the second dismounting(1359) to the second reign of Aron-vodă. Ureche glorifies the alliance with Poland, having most pages dedicated to Ștefan cel Mare. An important aspect of the work of Ureche stands in his style of describing landscapes and historical events, different from the ecclesiastical style. That is why Grigore Ureche is also considered the first chronicler of Moldavia. In the preface to this work, Kogălniceanu specifies: "today, we will not have art and literature if we do not take refuge in the origins of our nationality, which is the religion of the 19th Century". "Letopiseţele Ţării Moldovei" (Writing from Country of Moldova) remains an important historical work which had the role to consolidate Moldavian and, implicitly, Romanian culture, on these lands.
