Saint Christopher is one of the most astounding saints in the history of the Church, having a deep symbolic meaning. Celebrated on May 9, he is known as Saint Martyr Christopher, which means "Christ-bearer." His depiction with a dog's or lamb's head is an unusual element found equally in Byzantine iconography or in popular traditions. His story is linked to ancestral traditions, bridging different cultures and myths. Studies suggest that canine-headed beings, mentioned in various ancient texts, are often perceived as symbols of otherness and cultural diversity. This form of representation adds an interesting dimension to the discussion about physical versus spiritual perception. In our country, he appears painted in the churches and monasteries of Muntenia and Oltenia, having a dog or lamb head, while in Moldova the saint has a human head, but carries his dog head on a platter. Saint Christopher is the protector of travelers and guardian against unexpected death.
