The Hunters Monument in Ploiești, the work of the sculptor Giorgio Vasilescu, was erected in honour of the 2nd Hunters Battalion, which contributed to the first Romanian victory in the Independence War, i.e. Conquer of Grivița fort. With its inauguration in 1897, medals were mint to commemorate the event. Their obverse showed the bust of King Carol I facing left, alongside his titles, and the reverse, a representation of the monument, surrounded by the phrase "In the glory of the Romanian army / from 1877 - 1878 / In memory of the Battalion 2 Hunters / from 1877 - 1878 / Ploeșteni and the country / grateful / Action Committee / 1890 / started / 1897 / inaugurated".
