97. Bouquet with Tulips

Marc Chagall's images are rather made up of emotional and poetic associations, leaving logical chaining of images in the background. He was born and educated in Russia, but 1910 found him in Paris, in the circle of personalities like Guillaume Apollinaire and Robert Delaunay. Here he came in contact with Fauvism and Cubism and participated in Salon des Indépendants and Salon d'Automne. Through his works he evokes reveries and a lyrical atmosphere, building his creation from the emotional depths of the image. The essence of nature itself is imprinted into his canvases, while the window offers us a comprehensive view of his life. There is the bouquet of flowers, namely tulips, which also appear in his other works, around the 1920s. As the artist himself affirmed, he was inspired by the French style, the bouquets of flowers representing, for him, the quintessence of the French ethos. His wife (Bella) used to fill their home with impressive bouquets of flowers, which he dutifully transcribed into his paintings. Yet, what we see in Chagall is not the typical static nature, but genuine fragments of nature, representative of pure joy and ecstasy in front of the motif. The flowers become an expression of Chagall's couple love, a glory of the heart, and even a look at the setting where this family resides. Not to be omitted are also the human figure, zoomorphic interpretations; and also musical incursions and borrowings, perhaps even from his favorite composer - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
