33. Wakizashi Sword, signed by Sadakuni and Kunimitsu (法城寺 貞国 国光), from Hôjôji school, early Edo period (Kanbun), approx. 1661, accompanied by NBTHK certificate

This wakizashi is a result of cooperation between two members of the Shinto Hôjôji school: Sadakuni and Kunimitsu. While many swords were produced through collaborative works between two swordsmiths, usually father and son or master and apprentice, it is extremely rare to have a sword signed by both smiths who collaborated in its making. This blade has the classic shinogi shape and presents a perfect combination between form and weight, providing a superb sensation and balance. The gunome type hamon offers a very visible contrast and gives a sense of calm and relaxation. The nakago has a hole for mekugi and ends in a classic, intact iriyamagata-jiri. The sword is dressed in a classic saya with black roiro lacquer and is adorned with an elaborate knotted sageo. All the accessories (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki and kozuka) match and are decorated with a gilded dragon motif on a black background. On the exceptional kogatana, the hamon stands out and is signed by Shizu Saburo Kaneuji. The blade comes with the certificate from the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK) - The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, along with the silk sheaths.
