David Perets is an artist of European stature. He is known for his rich and diverse work in the genres of landscape, portrait and especially still life. His painting is dense and pasty in places, and the coloring is dynamic and lively. The work "Autumn Still Life" is characteristic of the artist's work from the second half of the 1930s. His life path took him from his hometown of Plovdiv to Sofia, where he graduated from the Academy of Arts under Professors Tseno Todorov and Dimitar Gyudzhenov. In the 1930s and 1940s, David Perets, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev and Vasil Barakov traveled around the beautiful Rhodope Mountains and painted plein air landscapes. They were jokingly called "The Barats" and this nickname is still alive today when we talk about these great Bulgarian artists. During his numerous travels in the 1930s to the Netherlands and France, Peretz became closely acquainted with European trends, which enriched him and provoked him to experiment in different directions. The still life genre is strongly present in Peretz's work in the 1930s and 1940s. They are characterized by rich compositions, mastery of painting, and impressive color. The work "Autumn Still Life" is not only characteristic of David Peretz's work, but also evidence of the author's close relationship with the artist Vasil Stoilov during the period, which is revealed by the dedication of the painting: "To the good friend Stoilov, Peretz, (19)38.
